An Orlando shopper notices extremely cheap prices on a few items at grocery chain Publix. He asks viewers “what’s going on” and wonders if its pricing is “broken.”
In a video with over 278,000 views, TikToker Andrew Fischer (@afishglobal) walks through the produce section of his local Publix.
“Is anyone else’s Publix doing this?” he asks. He shows a small package of Driscoll’s raspberries.
“They aren’t moldy. They’re completely fine,” he says, showing a sign discounting the berries from $5 to just $0.99.
Then, he walks to the beverage aisle. At the top of the shelf, he notices a sign offering “buy two, get three free” Pepsi 2-liter bottles.
The caption reads, “Did I hit the Publix sale lottery?”
Why are some items so cheap at Publix?
While Publix is typically known for its high prices, according to the r/Publix subreddit, the grocer occasionally offers deals that may seem too good to be true.
Publix shoppers on the forum have spotted $0.49 per pound turkey and $1.50 Powerade bars. Although some say they are suspicious of the quality when the grocer drops the price so sharply on once pricey products.
What do viewers think of the extreme discounts?
Some viewers say the TikTok makes them second-guess shopping at other grocers.
“Right now, Publix has a BOGO on Stouffer’s frozen meals for the 2nd time in a month. I stocked up on those meals and gave them away to friends, family, neighbors, and a local food pantry,” a commenter says.
“Please advise which Publix is this, cause I sent husband to garage already to go,” another asks.
“Listen, Pay attention there are so many good deals to be had at Publix! Love Publix,” a third writes.
However, others claim that the discounts are few and far between at Publix. Some suggest the discounts are on top of already inflated prices.
“So you have to buy 2 bottles of soda at an inflated $6 ea to get the deal. So did you fall for it? Publix is the biggest ripoff in Florida history next to the home insurance and FP&L, which are all buddies to Rhonda DeSantis,” one writes.
“Publix has been ripping us all off for 5 years. They can’t be trusted,” another says.
“Publix has good deals for two weeks and then raise the prices the following two weeks,” a third suggests.
