'Something special' - Nottingham Forest old boy reveals how he knew Leicester thrashing was coming

Former Nottingham Forest striker Robert Earnshaw reveals he had a “feeling” that he would be among the goals before his memorable display against Leicester City in 2009.

December 5, 2009 saw Forest go to the City Ground and take on their East Midland counterparts in a big game at the top end of the Championship, with the Wales international bagging a hat-trick in a 5-1 thrashing on Trentisde.

Both clubs were striving to achieve promotion to the top flight, with the Reds in fourth place and two points behind the Foxes who were third.

The striker netted all three of his goals in the first 49 minutes of the contest, while Paul Anderson and Dele Adedola provided support with the other two strikes.

Earnshaw was in his second season since his move from arch rivals Derby County, and has spoken about that memorable victory against the Foxes.

“Personally speaking, sometimes I get a feeling in the first few minutes of a match that something special is about to happen,” Earnshaw told the club’s website.

“I had that feeling when I made my debut for Wales against Germany when I scored the winner and I had it again in the early stages of the Leicester game.

“When I was warming up, I could just feel the energy in the stadium and for every club I played for, if I had that feeling then I knew something good was about to happen.

“After the first goal went in, I just knew there were going to be more goals for me on the day and I had to be in the right place at the right time when the ball dropped.”
