Fortnite’s Cube Island is currently moving around the map, activating runes on the ground in a timed pattern that seems like they’ll all be lit up by Halloween.
And yet I think people have been so focused on the path of Cube Island and the runes being activated by purple lightning storms, that they’re forgetting about the island itself. Has anyone actually…been to it lately?
If you actually land on it, or ride the vortex wind draft up to it, you’ll see that some very, very weird things are happening on the island and inside the house that formerly sat in the middle of Loot Lake. You can see from the outside that the Cube at the bottom of the island is creating additional Cube-like growths at the base of the house.
You can walk underneath it and it’s pretty much a Cube mine, though you can’t actually harvest the Cube growths themselves. They do not react when hit or shot like the Cube itself.
But that’s just the start, and things are continually changing on the island. While the growths underneath the house were the first to appear, in the past week, the growths have expanding and moved up into the house itself as you can see here:
So far, they haven’t reached the second floor, but judging by the glow under the floor, it sure seems like they’re about to. And this is only after one week.
I’m wondering if this is triggered by rune visitation. As in, every each rune that gets activated, the Cube Island house gets a little more corrupted and overgrown by the Cube material. The Cube corrupts, that’s what it does. We’ve seen that with areas on the map, and now we’ve seen it with literal characters, like bizarro world Brite Bomber, Dark Bomber, currently on sale in the store.
What it seems like is that at some point, this house/island is going to end up entirely consumed by Cube material, and possible just turn into…a mega floating Cube in the sky. If that is tied into the runes, that could happen as soon as Halloween hits, and then what happens after that, and all the runes are lit up, is anyone’s guess. Everyone is still predicting a Loot Lake volcano, and yet I am absolutely positive that we’re about to see a winter theme for season 7, so it could be a Cube nuclear winter instead.
Cube Island should be leaving the second rune later today, so I’m going to see if more growths appear, or if they appear when it reaches the third rune. If so, we definitely will have a pattern on our hands.
