For many, the storage of batteries is the bane of their existence, especially for Type B folks who just chuck them in a drawer, hoping to remember where they put them. So when one life hack expert discovered an easy way to keep your Duracell batteries from getting lost, folks rejoiced.
In a viral TikTok, self-proclaimed life hacks connoisseur Sidney (@sidneyraz) shared the ingenious way Duracell makes it easy for us to keep the batteries all in one place.
“Here’s something I didn’t know until I was in my 30s,” Sidney begins. He then shows a pack of Triple-A Power Boost Duracell batteries. “This battery packaging can lock shut in the back?”
Sidney then opens the perforated back portion of the battery package. He pulls down on the tab and folds the top part of the package into the back portion. Then, he brings up the tab once again, tucking the folded part. Now the top of the package is properly secured, and no batteries will fall out of the little “door” at the back. Voilá, you now have yourself a DIY storage box for your unused batteries.
Sidney shakes the package in either excitement or frustration that he didn’t discover this hack sooner. “Locked,” he concludes.
‘I didn’t know until today’
Sidney’s video earned more than 880,000 views as of Monday, with hundreds of folks in disbelief at the hack.
“Well, that would have been nice to know before all the batteries ran away in the junk drawer,” one user wrote, adding a face-palm emoji. “I prefer to open my batteries, leave them open, then have a drawer full of scattered batteries,” another said sarcastically.
Others shared their own method for keeping batteries in one spot.
Like this user, who wrote, “I have been opening them and keeping the loose ones in ziplock bags.”
Some folks who said they were much older than 30 were grateful for the PSA.
“That’s great and I’m just learning this in my 60’s!!” one said.
What’s the proper way to store your Duracell batteries?
Batteries can expire, so it’s imperative you learn how to properly store and take care of them. According to Duracell, you should store batteries in their own packaging in a dry place at a normal room temperature. It also shared some important “don’ts” when it comes to using your batteries. Some of them included:
- Don’t leave batteries in your device if you suspect it will not be used for several months.
- Don’t carry batteries loose in your pocket or purse as they may create a safety risk.
- Don’t mix old and new batteries, batteries of different brands, or batteries of different types
- Don’t attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries
- Don’t place your batteries in a refrigerator. This will not “recharge” your batteries, increase storage life, or increase your batteries’ power.
- And several others.
