'Something different' promised at new Nottingham restaurant with belly dancers

A new Turkish restaurant hopes to bring authentic food from around the world to Nottingham city centre - and the owners say belly dancers will perform every month.

The owners of Aspendos on Chapel Bar have said that customers will be able to enjoy "food and culture from around the world" when it opens in the coming weeks.

And they also hope it will become one of the only places in the city where traditional and authentic food will be served.

They have also said that 20-25 jobs will created when the eatery opens.

A spokesman for the new restaurant said: "This is not a place we are making for money, we are making handmade tables and decorating walls and it's a hobby for the people working on it. Everybody is contributing something towards it

"It's going to be different to other Turkish restaurants, we will serve alcohol, Turkish foods, coffees and different types of desserts and even seafood.

"We're going to have belly dancers and every month we're going to have different culture nights - it's all about enjoyment."

The unit was previously occupied by the Marrakesh Restaurant and Bar.

The current owners took over the building two years ago but have been working on the restaurant for the last four months.

According to those working on redeveloping the restaurant, Aspendos will aim for an older audience with their offering.

The spokesman added: "Every single place you go there are a lot of young people here.

"We want to give middle-aged people a place where they can be happy and be in a nice atmosphere.

"And bring something they can all enjoy and trade in doner kebabs for proper Turkish food that would usually only find there."
