Somerville House stabbing accused charged

A man accused of stabbing a security guard at a Brisbane school on Wednesday morning has been charged with multiple offences, police say.

The 51-year-old guard was stabbed in the back, arm and abdomen at dawn on Wednesday in the grounds of Somerville House at South Brisbane, in what police said was a "robbery gone wrong".

The guard was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery and has since released today.

Police said 25-year-old Khia Gribben was arrested over the incident just after 1:00pm on Thursday at a known family address in Beenleigh, south of Brisbane.

He has been charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding, robbery and entering premises to commit an indictable offence.

He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

Earlier on Thursday, Detective Inspector Tony Geary said police would allege Gribben stole keys when he was at the school.

"We've updated the school and they are very happy with the progress of the investigation," he said.

"The security guard's being released from hospital and police are with him now.

"He's survived these cowardly attacks so I'm sure he's very thankful for that — no-one deserves to be assaulted as a result of his work."
