Somerset manufacturer supplies bathroom pods after landing £3m student housing contracts

Somerset manufacturer Offsite Solutions has supplied more than 1,400 shower pods in contracts worth over £3m for three student housing schemes.

The company creates ready-assembled bathroom units for housing and accommodation projects including hotels and build-to-rent apartments.

The firm, which is one of the UK's largest suppliers of bathroom pods, fitted out and finished the glass reinforced plastic (GRP) composite pods at its factory in Highbridge for developers Mace.

The pods feature a tile-effect finish and amenities including a wall-mounted dual flush toilet and a thermostatic shower.

The pods, which are also used in hospitals and military facilities, will be used in Mace’s student schemes the West Wing in Cardiff, The Depot in Exeter, and West Way Square in Oxford.

Trevor Bonnage, operations director at Mace Developments, said the pods were an “ideal solution” for speeding up construction and improving quality of student accommodation.

Mr Bonnage said: “A major development for student housing contains an incredible amount of plumbing. To replace the bathrooms with a single ‘product’ makes much more sense.

He added: “We have to have complete confidence in the quality and water tightness of the bathroom pods. I can report that Offsite Solutions have demonstrated this on all three schemes.”

Offsite Solutions was recently awarded a £1.6m contract to supply 327 steel-framed ready assembled bathrooms for a new housing development in the centre of Milton Keynes.

Last year it made 136 pods for the £11.8m Ibis Plaza Hotel at Woodlands Court Business Park in Bridgwater, Somerset.

At the end of 2020 the company reported a 73% increase in pre-tax profits as turnover in 2019 hit £33.3m.

The company said it has been able to make all its pod deliveries to the dates required for every customer during the pandemic, despite it having to operate at a reduced capacity.

The company also said it saw a continued high level of inquiries for its services last year, with its quote bank valued at a record £325m.
