Someone was trying to farm a cannabis crop in a field in the upper Swansea Valley

Someone has been trying to grow cannabis in the middle of a field in the upper Swansea Valley.

A total of 54 plants have been discovered on land between Caer-Lan and Abercrave .

They could be seen coming out of the soil surrounded by mesh tree guards, with bamboo sticks to support them.

It is not yet known who planted them in the area.

They were growing on private land between Caer-Lan and Abercrave (Ystradgynlais NPT/Dyfed-Powys Police)

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the plants were growing on private land and that there had been no arrests so far.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "The plants were growing on private land between Caer-Lan and Abercrave.

"There were 54 of them - they were young plants.

"There have been no arrests. The investigation is ongoing."

Officers from the Ystradgynlais neighbourhood policing team took to Twitter to share images of the plants, which were found on Monday, May 20.

They urged anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.
