Someone smashed into a Welsh heritage centre in the middle of the night and stole a collection box

Police are investigating a “senseless” break-in at a Welsh heritage centre in which a front door was smashed and a collection box was stolen.

The incident occurred overnight earlier this week at the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre in Pembrokeshire. The venue is an independent museum and heritage centre which opened in 2014, and is run by the charity Pembroke Dock Heritage Trust.

During the early hours of Wednesday morning someone smashed the glass on the front entrance and made their way inside before taking a plastic collection box. It’s not known how much money was in the collection box at the time of the theft, but it was later found discarded in a nearby alleyway. A memorial window was also damaged and the heritage centre is currently closed due to what it described as the “senseless break-in”, with those who run it awaiting instructions from police to see “if and when” they can reopen.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Officers are investigating a break-in at the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, Pembroke Dock, following a report shortly after 9am on Wednesday. Anyone with information about the break-in, which happened at around 2.50am on the morning of Wednesday, May 24, is asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police, either online by emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101."
