Someone sent Kevin Durant flowers to apologize for fans cheering his injury

Monday’s Game 5 of the NBA Finals was an ugly look for Raptors fans.

When Kevin Durant went down with his second-quarter Achilles injury, much of the packed crowd at Scotiabank Arena reacted by cheering. The same went for the massive outdoor watch party at Jurassic Park where fans waved, celebrated and hugged each other when KD fell to the floor.

While both Raptors and Warriors players took exception to the fan conduct, one — presumably Canadian — basketball fan felt so bad about the scene in Toronto that it required a real apology.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area, the Warriors office received a flower arrangement from an anonymous fan who wanted to apologize “on behalf of Canada.”

The arrangement included a “Canada is sorry, KD” ribbon and a card that read:

Dear KD and Warriors:

I can’t even believe those dumbass Raptors fans cheered when they saw you were injured. I was watching the game and felt horrible. It was a total disgrace. I hereby apologize on behalf of Canada. Prayers for recovery.

That’s a great gesture.

Toronto has long had a reputation as an excellent sports city and fanbase. And sure, Monday was a black eye to the fanbase’s rep, but there are plenty of classy Raptors fans who didn’t cheer Durant’s injury. This fan went the extra mile to make sure the Warriors and Durant knew that.
