Someone please remind Chad Johnson his team is 4-7

Notorious showboat Chad Johnson on Sunday scored three touchdowns against the Tennessee Titans, helping the Bengals to a 35-6 win. The league's leading receiver in 2006, Johnson reverted to less glorious form in the second quarter Sunday. The Bengals were up 7-3 and were positioned at the Titan's 10-yard line on a third down. Quarterback Carson Palmer dropped back to pass and tossed the ball to Johnson, who grabbed it just inside the end zone for a score. Without breaking stride, Johnson dashed to the back of the end zone, snatched a television camera from a crewman and pantomimed filming the action back on the field. The stunt drew a 15-year penalty for excessive celebration, and helped the Titans drive to a 23-yard field goal. Johnson set the Cincinnati record for career receptions that game, and posted a respectable 103 receiving yards and 88 rushing yards. That's great. He deserves a hand. But someone ought to remind Johnson he's playing a team sport, and it's inappropriate to behave like that when his side has a losing record and is out of playoff contention with five games remaining in the regular season. At 4-7 the Bengals are in third place in the North Division of the American Football Conference. Johnson hadn't scored a touchdown since Sept. 16. "It wasn't good to see his celebration penalty," said Coach Marvin Lewis, "but he said it had been a while. (I told him) I understand." Now in his seventh year in the National Football League, Johnson has made a name for himself as a hot-dogger. In June, he raced a thoroughbred for charity, beating the four-year old Restore the Roar at Cincinnati's River Downs. Enjoying a 110-yard head start, Johnson won his maiden turf outing by 12 lengths. And last season, Johnson told reporters to address him and refer to him in stories as "Ocho Cinco," pidgin Spanish for his uniform number 85. Then, he wore a "Ocho Cinco" nameplate on his uniform before a game. The league fined him $5,000. If I were Lewis (or Palmer, or running back Kevin Watson, or any of the 59 other men on the roster) I'd tell Johnson to let his hands and feet show off, and skip the antics.
