'Someone needs to explain' - Liverpool fans baffled by Cristiano Ronaldo Ballon d'Or decision

Liverpool and other football fans have reacted to the 2019 Ballon d'Or awards by making strong claims about Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah after the rankings were revealed this evening.

Lionel Messi has claimed his sixth gong by narrowly beating out Liverpool star defender Virgil van Dijk, but it was not just the towering centre-back who was representing the Reds on the night.

Alisson Becker also received recognition thanks to the inaugural goalkeeping award, while Mane and Salah also made the top five alongside Van Dijk.

Whilst Liverpool fans were disappointed to see Van Dijk miss out on the award, there has been an acceptance around the greatness of Messi.

However, the same cannot be said for the rankings which ended up seeing five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo (third) finish higher than Mane (fourth) and Salah (fifth).

Story continues below....

Juventus star Ronaldo scored 27 goals in the Serie A and Champions League combined last season, while Mane and Salah bagged 26 and 27 respectively, part of which came in a much tougher Premier League competition than is found in Italy.

It's safe to say that Liverpool and other football fans feel both Mane and Salah should have finished above Ronaldo and here is the best of the reaction below.
