Somehow this driver missed all the important signs when they parked their car here

A driver parked their car in front of the access for an emergency rescue team - despite there being several warning signs.

Images show the car parked in Myrtle Terrace where Mumbles Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team is based.

It blocked the access for the team, which is made up of 15 local volunteers who are fully trained and able to respond, 24 hours a day to maritime and coastal emergencies.

Ben Shepherd, coastguard rescue officer, said the car was parked there for just over an hour. He said this was not the first time someone had blocked their access.

He said: "It's happened multiple times over the years. Thankfully on Thursday we weren't called out but in an emergency we are allowed to push the cars out of the way.

"It's a huge problem. We have a sign on the garage but people just seem to ignore it. People think that we only use the rescue car now and again but we are one of the busiest teams in Wales."

Mr Shepherd spoke of a previous incident where a car was blocking the entrance during an emergency.

"A few years ago we did have a call when someone was blocking the entrance so we had to push the car out the way. We do need more signs.

"As there is a pub by us people keep leaving their cars outside but the pub has shut down now. Before we were able to just run inside to see who it was but we can't do that now," he added.

Mumbles Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team also took to Twitter to explain the situation, tweeting: "We hope nobody gets in to difficulty during the time this person decided to park their car and currently block our station.

"Other than the massive keep clear sign and the double yellows and the big red emergency access sign it’s and easy mistake to make.

The rescue team added: "We are at the back of a pub unfortunately, currently boarded up. We are in a very small and insignificant single garage, we just have a big red sign on the stone wall behind it saying emergency access required 24 hours."
