Someone is selling McDonald's plastic straws on eBay for £1,000 as petition to bring them back nears 40k

An eBay seller is trying to flog 'super rare' McDonald's plastic straws for £1,000 as demand for their return continues to rise.

The listing comes after a petition was launched calling for McDonald's to revert back to their former ways after making the switch to paper straws which is now, as of Friday morning, nearing 40,000 signatures.

The fast food chain is currently in the process of reducing their environmental impact by replacing plastic straws for paper ones in all of its 1,361 restaurants across the UK and Ireland.

The eBay seller describes says in the 'product' description: "brilliant uncirculated brand new McDonald's straw this is soon to become the stuff of legend, imagine your about 50 years older than you are now, telling your grandchildren how you got given plastic straws from McDonald’s and they will look up to you like god!

"And you will turn to them and laugh and say I’m no god, I was alive before the snowflake generation took over!

"Want to bring them back so you don’t have to spend money on my listing? Then sign the petition."

But whilst plenty of people have praised McDonald's for its choice, this petition posted on 38 Degrees, and now the eBay listing, has showcased the amount of people against it.

The petition page simply reads: "Bring back McDonald's straws" and when asked why this is important, the creator added: "So I can drink my milkshake proper."

A McDonald's spokesperson told the M.E.N: "Last year we announced the switch from 1.8 million plastic straws used in our restaurants each day to paper straws.

"We take pride in doing the right thing and are taking significant steps to reduce our environmental impact. Our suppliers have made us paper straws that last at least 30 minutes in most, if not all liquids and were introduced following customer demand."
