Someone is selling a 'brilliant, uncirculated' McDonald's plastic straw on eBay for £1,000

Given all of the plastic littering our oceans, it makes complete sense that McDonald's would replace their plastic straws with paper alternatives.

But while the move is celebrated by those of us who want to protect the planet, others are unhappy with the move.

So much so, in fact, that there's a petition to prove it .

Much like Sir David Attenborough himself, it seems the fast food chain's plastic straws have achieved "national treasure" status. At least, that would go some way to explain the outrage, Mirror reports .

Capitalising on this is one cheeky eBay seller, who is flogging a Maccy D's plastic straw to the tune of £1,000.

The product description reads: "Brilliant uncirculated brand new McDonald's straw this is soon to become the stuff of legend, imagine your about 50 years older than you are now, telling your grandchildren how you got given plastic straws from McDonald's and they will look up to you like god!"

In addition to thinking there's someone foolish enough to pay £1k for a straw, the seller is also encouraging others to sign the petition to bring plastic straws back.

McDonald's decision to remove plastic straws from its branches in the UK - last year this amounted to 1.8 million plastic straws which is a considerable amount of non-recyclable refuse.
