Someone is charging up to £111 a night on Airbnb - for a tent

Gower offers some of the best views you're likely to find in Great Britain, and is a sight that many of us wouldn't mind waking up to.

And there are some who are making the most of that opportunity by offering you the chance to arise to the sights and sounds of Horton by camping in a tent.

A nice and affordable way to spend time in the beauty spot, you might think.

That's until you read it will cost you £51 a night for one person - with the cost rising to a staggering £111 for five people.

There is currently an advertisement on Airbnb , the website which lets people rent out their properties or spare rooms to guests, offering people the chance to stay in a tent for "camping without the hassle".

The tent pictured in the advert is a Valetta 500 tent from Vango, which has a stand up height living space and clear windows.

The cost of a stay for one person is £51 plus £8 service fee, taking the total to £59.

Airbnb explained...

What is Airbnb?

The total price rises if you want to increase the number of guests for your stay, with it costing £66 per night for two people, £81 for three, £96 for four and £111 for five people per night.

A standard two-man tent can be bought in most major retailers from as little as £15.

The Airbnb advert states: "If you want to camp without the hassle. This is for you. I'll provide everything.

"No hassle camping. I'll put the tent up for you and provide cooking and sleeping facilities, shop and immaculate toilet/shower facilities."

The listing states dogs must be on leads at all times, there should be no smoking in the tent, and no cooking in the tent due to the risk of fire.

By way of comparison, a room at a 200-year-old cottage on the edge of Gower would just cost you £36 for the night.

Tourism, including day trips, is said to be worth around £450m annually to the Swansea economy.

It is very much a year-round business, which is why glamping pods were considered a good way to extend the camping season.

A council working group has been looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the tourism sector and said eco-tourism in Gower was very important.

WalesOnline contacted the person who posted the tent listing but they declined to comment.
