Someone who bought a lottery ticket in Manchester is £1m richer after claiming the jackpot with just hours to go.
It has taken them six months to come forward to stake a claim for the prize which relates to the Lotto draw on January 9, 2019.
The lucky ticket-holder had until midnight on Monday (July 8) to make themselves known and as the Manchester Evening News reported, nobody had claimed the prize before 4pm yesterday.
Camelot said in a statement: "Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, operator of The National Lottery, today announced that a claim has been made in relation to the £1,000,000 prize from the Lotto draw on 9 January 2019.
"The ticket was bought in Manchester. The claim is currently going through the process of validation.
"Unless the winner of a major National Lottery prize opts to take full publicity and signs an agreement to that effect, no further information can be released about their win."
If no-one had claimed the win before the deadline, then the prize money, plus all the interest it has generated, would have gone to help National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.
The National Lottery changes the lives of individuals as well as communities with players raising, on average, around £30m for National Lottery-funded projects every week.
More than 7,000 individual National Lottery grants have been awarded in Manchester alone to help projects across the arts, sports, heritage, health, education, environment, charity and voluntary sectors.
