'Someone even sent me a free Sunday roast': The acts of kindness from Geordies for Tanya Davies

"It shows just what Newcastle's like".

That's how Tanya Davies feels after the city rallied around to support the mum-of-two after she revealed she was battling cancer again.

The 32-year-old single mum admits she's "petrified" of what might happen to her two sons as she fights for her life again.

But after ChronicleLive told her heartbreaking story, she's been swamped with acts of kindness.

People have offered everything from money to the use of their Land Rover for the day so she can make memories with her two boys.

"People have offered to do anything for us - someone even sent a Sunday roast for Mother's Day," admits the Walker mum.

"I didn't expect any of this - some of the people have have offered stuff I don't even know."

But last week her world was turned upside down after doctors found the cancer - which started in her bowel - was back.

Not only that, it was spreading aggressively.

It forced into the agonising decision to ask her two sons, 14-year-old Ben and Jack, eight, that they would always promise to look after each other should anything happen to her.

But the East End is doing its bit to look after Tanya.

On Friday, a fundraiser will be staged for the family at Crockets Hotel between 10am and 7pm.

Beauty treatments, like make-up applications and gel nails, will be offered in exchange for donations to the family.

And on May 17, a comedy event at Heaton Buffs Club - The Top Hat and Heels comedy show - is raising money for the "incredible person" that is Tanya.

And cash is still pouring in on a JustGiving page to send the family on holiday.

For modest Tanya, the outpouring of support has left her stunned.

"I don't understand it," she admits.

"Obviously people are drawn to us and I think some people are putting themselves in my shoes and what it would be like for their kids."
