Someone dumped a huge pile of tyres on the roadside in Mapperley

A frustrated postman has shared pictures of more than 20 tyres dumped at the side of a Nottingham road.

The tyres were spotted in Ransom Road, Mapperley on Tuesday, September 1.

The pictures were taken by Gav Weatherbed, a postman who saw the pile of rubber tyres during his rounds.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, the 47-year-old said: "I just don't see any reason for it.

"There were 24 tyres thrown there.

"It's a part I walk past everyday, around a 100-foot wooded area and it just seems like a free for all.

"It's just so selfish and disgusting. I've seen the odd unit there too, once there was a fridge freezer."

The tyres were piled off to the side, but some had rolled out onto the pavement.

Gav said he believes the area has now been cleared but said the spot has become a problem for rubbish.

"[The tyres] wouldn't have been a quick job and somebody must have seen it happen," he added.

"It started as around a dozen bin bags that were there for a number of weeks, now it just gets used for all sorts.

"There are people coming to this area to look at homes, and it's a bit off-putting.

"A fence would maybe help but then people always find ways around it.

"It brings the whole area down and it's not necessarily the people who live here.

"The people who do this, they've got no shame."

Councillor Rebecca Langton, portfolio holder for communities at Nottingham City Council, said: “We’ve been out to remove these tyres today (September 3).

"Fly-tipping shows a real lack of community spirit and wastes our time and resources, which are already stretched.

“It’s also totally unnecessary because, while many other councils across the country charge, we have maintained a free bulky-waste collection service.

"If you need to get rid of large items, you can book a collection by calling 0115 915 5555 or visiting our website.

"There is no excuse for dumping anything on the streets of Nottingham and we will always seek to prosecute anyone caught doing this.”
