Some Taylor Swift fans to get another chance at coveted ‘Eras Tour’ tickets

Taylor Swift fans who are registered as “verified” may have a second shot at tickets to her “Eras Tour” as Ticketmaster tries to make things right after its website crashed last month amid an onslaught of orders.

Those verified fans were informed by email Monday that they would be individually invited to put dibs on a purchase request by Dec. 23, with a two-ticket limit. The move came after the singer’s team urged the seller to make up for crashing when fans flooded the website seeking tickets.

“You were identified as a fan who received a boost during the Verified Fan presale but did not purchase tickets,” Ticketmaster told Swifties. “We apologize for the difficulties you may have experienced, and have been asked by Taylor’s team to create this additional opportunity for you to purchase tickets.”

According to Ticketmaster, 3.5 million fans preregistered for something call the Verified Fan program unique to Swift. The presale period proved too much for the seller’s infrastructure. Ticketmaster initially said that the site had slowed, not crashed, and encouraged fans to endure long wait times.

“However, this time the staggering number of bot attacks as well as fans who didn’t have codes drove unprecedented traffic on our site, resulting in 3.5 billion total system requests – 4x our previous peak,” Ticketmaster stated after canceling the public ticket sales on Nov. 17 when it was unable to meet demand.

The U.S. Department of Justice had already opened an antitrust investigation into Ticketmaster’s parent company before the Swift snafu. The artist said it had been “excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.”

“The Eras Tour” will begin March 8 in Glendale, Arizona, and conclude Aug. 9 in Los Angeles.
