Some rubbish bins won't be collected today. Here's what you need to do with your waste

Household rubbish and recycling bins won't be collected on Monday as garbage truck drivers walk off the job over pay negotiations with contractor SUEZ.

Twenty-three suburbs in Canberra's south will be affected by the 24-hour strike as workers fight for changes to their Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

Green waste bin services, bulky waste collections and the wheeled bin assistance service are unaffected by the industrial action and will continue as normal.

Suburbs affected by the strike are: Chapman, Chifley, Coombs, Curtin, Denman Prospect, Duffy, Farrer, Fisher, Greenway, Holder, Kambah, Lyons, Mawson, Oxley, Pearce, Rivett, Stirling, Torrens, Uriarra Village, Waramanga, Weston, Wright and Yarralumla.

The collections won't be caught up later as the ACT government said it would cause too much disruption to other suburbs.

Affected households can get rid of up to three large garbage bags of waste for free at temporary drop-off sites until Sunday.

  • Waramanga - Walpiri Place, off Namatjira Drive
  • Kambah - 66 Springbett Street, near the tennis courts
  • Gowrie - 7 Finlay Place, near the Scout hall
  • Weston - Hilder Street, at the Weston Neighbourhood Oval.

Each site is open from 9am- to 6pm.

Waste can also be disposed of at Canberra's resource management centres between 7.30am to 5pm.

  • Symonston - Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre, Mugga Lane
  • Mitchell - Mitchell Resource Management Centre, Flemington Road
