Everton loanee Yannick Bolasie has hit out against plans to establish a European Super League.
Late on Sunday evening, after reports had circulated throughout the day, 12 clubs from across the continent announced that they had agreed to establish a new competition called "The Super League".
Six clubs from the Premier League (Manchester United, Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool) joined three sides from La Liga (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid) and three Serie A teams (AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus) in making the announcement.
The plans have been met with wide condemnation from governing bodies, pundits, politicians and fans alike - and now players and former professionals are starting to have their say too.
Bolasie, currently on loan from Everton at Middlesbrough, took to Twitter on Monday morning to vent his frustration.
The winger tweeted: "Some real mercenaries...all values and history thrown out the window."
So far, at the time of writing, players and managers from the 12 clubs themselves have stayed quiet on the issue.
UEFA joined forces with the Premier League and other leading European leagues to issue a statement strongly condemning the proposed Super League on Sunday.
