Some people smashed up an NHS worker's car while he completed a shift in hospital

A hospital worker has described his shock at discovering his car had been smashed and broken into whilst he was on duty.

Huw Thomas, a porter in Singleton Hospital, Swansea, was alerted to the fact the window of his BMW had been targeted by what is understood to be two men on a motorcycle, sometime around midday on Friday, May 15.

The 45-year-old, from Sketty, said: "There were two guys on a motorbike spotted from a distance on CCTV.

"I think it was attempted theft as the cover for the diagnostic socket had been pulled off, it was in Singleton Hospital staff car park and happened sometime Friday daytime.

"I was a bit shocked when I received the phone call and saw the mess, there is also chips to the paint which I’ll have to leave as it will affect my insurance excess costing more.

"I’m also having trouble getting the glass replaced supposedly due to Covid-19 as the deliveries are either suspended or delayed so the vehicle is easy to access at the moment."

Earlier this month, we reported how night staff working at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon in the Cynon Valley returned to their cars to find they'd been vandalised.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a car being damaged at Singleton Hospital on the afternoon of May 15.

"Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence 2000168050."

And a statement from Swansea Bay University Health Board read: "We are not able to comment about any particular security incident but would like to confirm that car parking staff are on duty during the day and security guards patrol the site 24/7."
