Some of UK's 'fastest internet speeds' arrive in Restalrig, Balerno and Liberton areas

Some of the UK's "fastest internet speeds" have arrived in the Restalrig, Balerno and Liberton areas of Edinburgh.

Vodafone has announced that the Gigafast full-fibre broadband is now live in parts of the Scottish capital, and it will be rolled out in even more areas at a later date courtesy of CityFibre – the UK's national digital infrastructure platform.

According to the telecoms giant, the broadband will give download speeds of up to 900Mbps, 16 times faster than standard, and upload speeds of up to 125 times faster than the average.

Vodafone say this will benefit both small businesses and residents, with the whole family able to play films and online games, or upload media with no time lag.

Edinburgh Live reported last month that Vodafone 5G had gone live in the city, with customers now able to experience "Wi-Fi-like speeds on the move". This development allows people to use services such as Spotify Premium, Amazon Prime Video and Sky Sports Mobile TV at speeds of up to ten times faster.
