Some Nottingham Tesco stores affected by supermarket shake-up

Your local Tesco store could be changing.

Back in August 2019, the supermarket giant announced a major restructure of its Tesco Metro branded stores.

Metro branches, which launched in 1994, are mainly city centre stores and include the Victoria Centre store in Nottingham.

Now, the retailer is rebranding all of its 147 Metro stores into Express and Extra superstores.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Over the last few years, we have seen our customers’ shopping habits change and we have taken the decision to re-brand all of our Metro stores to better reflect this.

"Our Metro format was originally designed for larger, weekly shops, but today nearly 70% of customers use them as convenience stores, buying food for that day.

“To ensure our offer continues to serve the needs of our customers, 89 of our Metro stores will re-brand as Tesco Express. The remaining 58 Metro stores will have their Metro signage removed and be referred to as Tesco Superstores.”

As yet it is unclear which branding Nottingham stores will carry following the mass overhaul. However, the supermarket says that customers won't be impacted as the roll-out.

A spokesperson for the company said that stores will receive new fascias over the coming months but will continue to trade normally throughout.

Adding: "There will be no redundancies and colleagues will not be impacted in any way."
