Some like it cold: Wild swimmers brave it in chilly Serpentine

Making a splash: Amber Williams and Bizzy Arnott have been braving the water

Dozens of hardy “wild swimmers” are defying freezing temperatures and the first snow flurries of the winter for a pre-work dip in the Serpentine.

Amber Williams and Bizzy Arnott were among about 40 members of the Serpentine Swimming Club who have been taking to the murky 7C waters in Hyde Park early in the morning. Londoners woke up to frost and snowflakes this morning, with temperatures forecast to rise to no more than five degrees today.

But Ms Williams, 25, said there was growing awareness of the mental and physical health benefits of cold water swimming: “You can get an endorphin rush in a matter of minutes, far more quickly than from running, and all you need is a swimsuit, so it’s very time-efficient.”
