Some GP surgeries have started to cancel walk-in appointments because of coronavirus

Two surgeries in the Swansea Bay Health Board area have closed their doors to walk-in appointments because of coronavirus.

The SA1 Medical Centre at the Beacon Centre for Health, and Kingsway Surgery in Swansea, usually have walk-in appointments available to patients, but have changed their policies in light of recent events.

The SA1 Medical Centre, last week displayed posters reading: "Due to the high risk of c oronavirus spread we have had to take the decision not to offer open surgery appointments for the forseeable future - we apologise for this."

Patients are being asked to telephone the surgery instead. They will then either be consulted over the phone or given an appointment, depending on their symptoms.

Kingsway Surgery has put a notice on its website to alert patients to changes. It reads: "Please note we are temporarily stopping our morning open access GP clinic due to risks associated with the coronavirus.

"If you wish to see a doctor please contact the surgery and request a telephone call back before 11am or book an afternoon appointment."

Six people have officially been diagnosed with the virus in Wales while more than 600 have been tested so far.

This is the latest on coronavirus , including advice, symptoms and worst-affected countries.
