TOYAMA -- Five flower shops in Toyama City and elsewhere have created drive-throughs in parking lots of large commercial facilities to sell carnations ahead of Sunday's Mother's Day.

They started the service in an effort to avoid the "Three Cs" -- closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact -- as a preventive measure to combat the coronavirus.

Customers were able to stay in their cars and choose from about 20 items such as, potted plants and bouquets of colorful dried flowers, which were on display at these locations.

A 35-year-old childcare worker from Toyama, who went to one of the locations with her family, said her 8-year-old son gave her a bouquet of dried flowers.

"[Flowers] give me peace of mind while we continue to refrain from going out," she said.

Flowers are sold at these locations through Sunday.
