Some Celtic fans could return to stadium for match against Motherwell on Sunday

Some Celtic fans could be in attendance when their team take on Motherwell on Sunday.

A small amount of supporters were allowed to attend the 4-0 defeat to PSG in France last month, but the last competitive match which Celtic fans were able to attend was the 5-0 win against St Mirren at Celtic Park on March 7.

It now appears that a small number may be given the opportunity to attend their Premiership fixture this weekend.

On Tuesday night BBC Scotland reporter Chris McLaughlin tweeted: "Up to 1000 Celtic fans could return to Celtic Park for the visit of Motherwell this weekend.

"Decision due tomorrow (Wednesday) after meeting between SPFL and government. Still very much in the balance."

Lennon's men will play behind closed doors tonight against Ferencvaros in the Champions League second qualifying round.

As with the first round it's a one-legged tie, with extra time and penalties potentially coming into play.

Lennon has spoken about tonight's match being played without a crowd, saying: "We have got some new players in the building, but we have a team full of experienced internationals and I think our Europa League run will stand us in good stead.

"Ultimately, we want to play in the Champions League and we know these ties are difficult to negotiate. It would be great to replicate those nights again and by doing that, we have to overcome a very good side."
