Some bins won't be collected in Manchester due to lorry driver shortage

A national shortage of lorry drivers means that some bins won't be collected in Manchester this week - here's what you need to know.

What areas are affected?

Until tomorrow, brown bin collections might be affected in: Baguley, Brooklands, Burnage, Chorlton, Chorlton Park, Didsbury East, Didsbury West, Fallowfield, Levenshulme, Moss Side, Northenden, Old Moat, Sharston, Whalley Rnage, Withington and Woodhouse Park.

What to do if your bin isn't collected?

If brown bins are missed on the street Manchester City Council said: "Sorry, we can't get back for these. Take it back in until your next scheduled collection day."

If a grey, blue or green bin is missed on your street then the council has urged people to leave it outside, promising to return the following day to empty it.

If your grey, blue or green bin is still not collected the following day, you can report a missed collection online here.

Where is the nearest tip to me?

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority, who manage Manchester's facilities, have three tips that are open:

  • Reliance Street, Newton Heath, M40 3EZ - open seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm
  • Longley Lane, Sharston, M22 4RQ - open seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm
  • Sandfold Lane, Levenshulme, M19 3BJ - open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm
