Some baseball players and fans are very upset about Alex Bregman carrying his bat

Astros star Alex Bregman sparked a debate over baseball’s unwritten rules with his celebration of a first-inning home run off Stephen Strasburg in Game 6 on Tuesday night. Bregman, who hit a grand slam in Game 4, launched his third home run of the series to give the Astros a 2-1 lead, and he carried his bat all the way to first-base. Bregman tried to hand his bat to the first-base coach, but the relay was fumbled, and the bat ended up on the basepath.

[UPDATE]: Juan Soto hit a go-ahead moonshot in the bottom of the fifth, and carried his bat to first base in response to Bregman.

Naturally, there were a few professional baseball players who were upset with Bregman for “disrespecting” the Nationals, or even worse, the game of baseball itself.

Some fans loved the move – which may or may not have even been intentional – while others feared that the next Astros batter would take a pitch to the head.
