Solskjaer sends message to Manchester United starting XI ahead of AZ Alkmaar Europa League tie

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his Manchester United starting XI to take the chance they have been given against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

The United manager made nine changes from the side that beat Manchester City in the derby at the weekend with only Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial keeping their places.

The game, which is United's final game in the group stages of this season's competition, is a first start for Nemanja Matic in midfield in 10 weeks and it was put to Solskjaer that it was a chance for the Serbian to prove a point.

"I think for everyone it's a chance," Solskjaer told MUTV ahead of kick off. "I know everyone of these when I look them in the eye and say 'you'll be on the bench today' they're never happy and they don't like me. So here's their chance.

"I have a good squad, loads of good players and it's important now in this period that we keep everyone match fit and some of these haven't played as much as they would have wanted to and now is a chance to get some minutes but also point the finger and say they want to play more."

Solskjaer picked a very young side for the last Europa League clash away to Astana but has selected a more experienced side for the fixture against the Dutch side as United look to secure qualification to the knockout stages as group winner.

"We are playing against a good team it doesn't have as a big a name as Ajax or PSV but if you look at the performances and their position in the league," he said. "They're a very good team so we have a game on our hands but we would like to win the group of course so that's why we put this team out."
