Solskjaer sends Manchester United warning ahead of Colchester fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his Manchester United side against complacency ahead of their meeting with Colchester in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

United host their League Two opponents in the last eight of the competition on Wednesday night with Solskjaer's side heavy favourites to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Although United are strong favourites to win the match Colchester have already defied the odds by defeating Premier League sides Tottenham and Crystal Palace en route to their first appearance in the League Cup quarter-finals in 45 seasons.

United have themselves been eliminated from three of their last five League Cup quarter-finals, losing most recently in 2017/18 against Bristol City, and Solskjaer has urged his side to start quickly and put the tie to bed.

“When you put that Manchester United shirt on, complacency should not be in your head,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“And when there is a semi-final and a potential final there at stake, of course you have got to go out there and start brightly, start quickly, get your goals and then hopefully get through.

“We are at home but, of course, this is a team that has knocked out Tottenham and Crystal Palace, so there is no way we are going to take them lightly.

"Even though we are favourites and big favourites, we know you have to go out there, perform, create chances and score goals. We hope to do so.”
