Solskjaer explains Manchester United team vs West Ham and Edinson Cavani absence

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to get Manchester United's fringe players going when they face West Ham in the third round of the Carabao Cup in midweek.

United are back in action on Wednesday night against the same opponents they beat 2-1 at the weekend but have completely changed their side from the victory at the London Stadium.

Solskjaer has made 11 changes to his starting line up for the match and he is looking for players on the periphery to make their mark and take their chance.

"They have all played for their countries so that says a little bit on how far we have come," he told MUTV. "We have got a good strong squad now and we need to share out the minutes. It is early in the season and, some of these players, Alex (Telles) for example, hasn't played at all. We need to get more players going."

Anthony Elanga and Phil Jones could make their first senior appearances of the season from the bench but striker Edinson Cavani is still not fit enough to be involved.

Solskjaer added: "Anthony is going to have a very, very good future and a good career with us, we think. So hopefully we can put him on and Phil great to have him back. For him, for his family and for the team. We know we will need Jonah.

"(Cavani) has not trained enough to be part of this. He is working hard and he knows his body better than anyone. He will put his hand up when he is ready."
