Solskjaer explains Jadon Sancho's slow start for Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has eased the pressure on Jadon Sancho and backed the forward to be a key player for Manchester United over the next decade.

Sancho, 21, joined United from Borussia Dortmund for £72.9million in the summer window but is yet to have a massive impact at his new club.

The England international has featured for United in five competitive matches but has so far been outshone by fellow summer arrivals Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.

Solskjaer hopes the focus on Ronaldo in particular can ease the expectations on Sancho and he has backed the young winger to be a long-term success at Old Trafford once he overcomes his initial teething issues.

"I think you're right, both with Raphael Varane and Cristiano coming in, that takes a little bit of pressure off a young man," Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

"He's 21, he's learning the game, he's learning how we train, he's learning how we play, he's learning the Premier League, but he's come in hungry to learn.

"We knew his talent, and we signed him with the thought that we are going to have a top forward here for the next 10 or 12 years. Jadon's finding his feet, it's unfortunate that he fell ill just when he was going to come in, so he was out, and he lost a bit of pre-season. But he is working hard and he will be good."
