Solo 45 continues to deny that sex with four woman was rape

A musician said when he told a woman his intimacy with her was "on the verge of rape" it referred to his penchant for rough sex with provocative language.

Grime star Andy Anokye was giving evidence for the third day in a trial in which it is alleged he raped four women multiple times.

But his case is that intimacy, much of which was filmed, was consensual and full of "sub dom-type" fantasy talk.

Anokye, 32, of Millennium Promenade, Bristol, was a member of the grime creatives Boy Better Know.

He performs under the stage name Solo 45 and denies 31 charges against him covering two years.

The charges relating to four complainants include 22 counts of rape and five counts of false imprisonment.

Anokye is also accused of two charges of assault by penetration and two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He recounted how he and the second complainant were in a car, taking MDMA and cocaine and having sexual activity - when he should have been with his music entourage.

He suggested he get a hotel for the night and told her: “My sex is on the verge of rape.

“I f*** you when you don’t want to be.

“That’s technically rape.”

Anokye told the jury this was nothing more than fantasy talk.

He also told Bristol Crown Court he was “goofing around” when he said he liked “racist sex” and invited the second complainant to use racist language during intimacy.

When asked if sex with her was forced, he replied: “Of course not”.

He recounted how she started crying after he told her he would not be seeing her again.

“I was probably just goofing around,” Anokye said, adding he had not intended not to see her again.

He told the jury videos made of them having sex were “100 million percent not" videos showing rape.

Anokye recalled meeting complainant three but denied having any forced intimacy with her.

He said consensual intimacy was vigorous and included slapping, some of which was filmed.

But he said things went “a bit left” when they started bickering about plans for the future and their relationship broke down.

Anokye said he met the fourth complainant in a night club and their consensual sex was "rough, vigorous, racist and involved slapping”.

The case continues.
