Solihull 'murder': Man, 21, stabbed to death near popular bar in busy town centre

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally stabbed in a town centre.

Police were called near to Popworld and Yates Bar in Solihull, west Midlands, at 3am this morning - which police say would have been a busy time with many people leaving bars and clubs.

A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Sadly nothing could be done to save him and he died a short time later.

His family have been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

Extensive CCTV enquiries are ongoing and police said the scene would remain closed while detectives carry out their investigation.

In a tweet, Chief Superintendent Lee Wharmby of West Midlands Police described it as a "tragic waste of life".

He added: "Our thoughts are with family and friends."

A woman collecting for the RSPB charity outside the police cordon told Birmingham Live : "It’s such a shame when something like this happens.

"Society seems to be getting worse.

"I think the answer is that we need more visible police on the streets."

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Munro from West Midlands Police's Homicide team said, “A man has sadly lost his life at the hands of a knife and we are now working to establish exactly why this happened.

“This would have been a busy time in Solihull with many people would have been leaving bars and clubs, so we are appealing for anyone with information, who has not already spoken to us to come forward.

“We know taxis and cars were nearby during the early hours of this morning, so we are also appealing for anyone with dash cam footage to contact us as soon as possible, as this may hold key information into the circumstances of this attack.

“The man’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.”
