Soldier who 'glassed' pal in Magaluf freed as witness recalls seeing Glasgow woman slump to ground

The soldier accused of Magaluf 'glass attack' victim Sarah Ann Garrity won't press charges against army pal who in Magaluf has been released from prison.

Glasgow woman ‘attacked’ in Magaluf to be ‘moved from intensive care’, 22, suffered serious injuries in the incident and had emergency surgery before her pal Sydney Cole, 19, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with a dangerous weapon.

Yesterday, Sarah, who is in the Royal Logistic Corps, told court officials from her hospital bed that she is not making a formal complaint against Cole.

She waived her right to claim compensation or launch a private prosecution against Cole if she’s found guilty of any wrongdoing after a trial.

The alleged attacker told the court that Glasgow solider 'glassed' in Magaluf posts that she is 'alive and that's all that matters' was an accident.

She said she and Sarah had been on a drink-fuelled bender in the party resort before it happened.

Cole told the court: “Sarah and I were very drunk because we had been drinking since 11am on Monday. But I didn’t want to cut her throat.

“She is my best friend.

“We began drinking at 11am in the hotel, afterwards in a bar and then again in the room.

“Then we went to an event with a free bar and we had shots, vodka, gin and other drinks.”

Sarah, of Irvine, lost a lot of blood and needed 14 stitches after the rammy.

She has been moved from intensive care to a general ward in Son Espases Hospital in Palma and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.

Although Sarah doesn’t want to press charges, Cole could still face a criminal prosecution in Majorca.

The teenager was arrested in the early hours of Monday and remanded in Palma prison.

Cole, who is from London but based at barracks in Scotland, was expected to be released at about 9pm yesterday.

No conditions were placed on her release so she can return to the UK while the investigation against her continues.

It is believed Sarah owes her life to a rugby player who raced to the scene to stop blood gushing out from her neck after the alleged attack.

A source said: “Sarah slumped to the ground outside. She was accepting death and her whole life flashed before her eyes.

“But a guy who was part of a rugby squad stopped the bleeding by applying
pressure.

“Sarah and the family want to thank the rugby player so much because he went above and beyond.

“She lost a huge amount of blood and needed 14 stitches to close the cut on her neck.”

Sarah, who lives in Middlesbrough, was on holiday with Cole when the brawl happened.

Her condition after the alleged attack was critical.

The injured woman’s family in Irvine were not available for comment when approached by the Daily Record.

It is thought they have made their way to Spain to be by Sarah’s bedside.

Cole, believed to be in the Adjutant General’s Corps, has not yet been charged with any offence, as is normal in Spain, where formal charges are only laid shortly before trial.
