One soldier was killed and another was injured on Saturday in Pakistan Army’s firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pir Panjal valley’s Rajouri district.

“Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation on the LoC in Nowshera Sector of Rajouri. Our own troops responded strongly to the enemy fire,” a Jammu-based army spokesperson said.

The Army said Havaldar Patil Sangram Shivaji was critically injured in the firing. “He later succumbed to his injuries,” the spokesperson said. The deceased soldier was from Maharashtra. Another soldier was also injured in the firing.

An Army official said Pakistan used small arms and mortars in the attack.

Meanwhile, two women were injured when the Pakistan troops launched shelling with mortars in Degwar Teriyan village in Poonch sector around 6:30 p.m.

They were identified as as Mansha Bi, 18, and Sakina Bi, 40.

“They are undergoing treatment in the Poonch district hospital,” officials said.
