Soldier jailed on drugs charges after death of prostitute during 'extravagant' balcony sex

An ex-soldier arrested after a prostitute fell to her death as they had sex on a Thai balcony has been jailed on drugs charges.

Wannipa Janhuathon, 26, died in January last year after falling from a fifth floor apartment in Pattaya, Thailand.

Thai authorities she had been having “strange and extravagant” sex with British man Reece Vella.

At the time of the tragedy the convicted rapist, 27, was on the run from UK police after missing a court appearance in Worcester.

He had paid Wannipa, also known as Joy, £35 to have sex with her after meeting in a Pattaya bar.

She mysteriously fell to her death from the balcony in the Cosy Beach View complex just over two hours later.

Former Royal Logistics Corps soldier Vella was charged with causing death by negligent or reckless behaviour.

But Wannipa’s death was later ruled as accidental and Vella, from Worcester, was freed without charge.

He was hauled back to the UK after his release earlier this year to answer drug charges.

Vella jailed for four years at Worcester Crown Court on Monday after he admitted dealing crack cocaine and heroin.

He was previously jailed for four years and nine months in 2012 after admitting rape and common assault.
