Solar uplighters are turning backyard trees into living sculptures – a fall gardening trend we are so on board with, plus we've found some with 20% off

Uplighting for trees.

When I moved into my home earlier this year, I was delighted to find some beautiful trees and shrubs already in the garden. Now that the days are getting shorter, I'm sad to not be able to look out of my window and admire them in the evening. So, I've been looking for the perfect lighting solution to put my trees on display once the daylight disappears.

After scrolling through different garden lighting ideas, I knew I wanted solar uplighting for trees. And there wasn't much competition once I stumbled across these top-rated GKGG solar spotlights on Amazon. On a limited time deal of 20% off with four lights included, it's going straight in my basket, especially because reviewers say, 'it’s such a great value for the quality.'

They're super simple to install, too. Insert the spikes into the ground, tilt the light until it's at a preferred angle, and let the sunlight charge it. It even has three light modes to choose from, so you can personalize it to create the right level of drama and ambience in your yard.

Why uplight a tree?

Whether you're looking for dramatic outdoor lighting or want to create a soft and cozy feel in your yard after dark, uplighting a tree can be an effective lighting technique.

By placing spotlights at the base of a tree, and even a few feet away, and positioning them to shine upwards, the foliage and silhouette of your tree will be illuminated.

It's a great way to show off the foliage shapes of different trees. Plus, the colors of foliage can be enjoyed into the night by using solar uplighting for trees – this is why I'm particularly excited to get my hands on the solar spotlights now, just in time to showcase the best trees for fall color.

And while the impact of uplighting can look intricate and impressive, achieving this look is incredibly easy. Especially with such a straightforward design as the Amazon solar lights.

Why shoppers love these lights

Besides the fact this 4-pack of outdoor solar spotlights is currently only $25 (a bargain to jump on while the limited time deal lasts!), it's also been purchased over 2000 times in the last month, and has a rating of 4.8 stars with very happy customers leaving raving reviews.

'The 76 LEDs are super bright and perfectly light up my patio and garden,' one reviewer writes. 'The three lighting modes are easy to switch between and work great for different needs,' they add.

Depending on how tall the tree is you're wanting to uplight, the different modes can accommodate intensity of the light, as well as the warmth of the light.

'I like that they come with three different lighting modes, so I can choose between a softer glow or a brighter spotlight depending on the area,' another shopper says. 'The cool white color gives a crisp, clean look at night,' they add.

As for durability, the product description notes the lights are 'Strong Waterproof, Safe.' Customers who have put this to the test agree with this statement:

'They are truly waterproof (IP65) and have withstood heavy rain with no problem,' one satisfied customer writes. 'I also appreciate that they are solar-powered – a sustainable and energy-saving feature that makes them even better,' they add.

It's true that if you're looking for ways to incorporate more eco-friendly gardening into your yard, opting for solar power lights is a good choice. And these lights seem to charge efficiently in sunlight:

'They stay on for hours after charging during the day,' one reviewer shares.

For those feeling a little unsure about how to install garden lighting, there is no need to worry with these lights. You just have to insert them into the ground to create an uplighting effect.

'Installation was simple – no wiring needed – just stake them into the ground, and they start charging in the sun,' a shopper explains.

It's difficult to find a downside to these solar lights, with five-stars flooding the reviews section. However, if you have a large backyard with lots of trees to light up, a 4-pack may not be sufficient.

Although, they do also offer a 6-pack of outdoor solar spot lights on Amazon for a higher cost. You can also find larger packs from other brands, though they don't have as many ratings:

What to shop

I can't wait to see how uplighting my shrubs and trees changes my yard's night-time landscape. There are, of course, lots of other garden lighting trends to explore. For example, moonlighting your garden is a technique that creates natural-looking night light in your garden, illuminating your plants in a soft, yet dramatic way.
