Solar households in NSW asked for feedback

The one in seven households in NSW which have solar panels are being asked to speak up about whether their needs are being met.

The state's Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has begun a review on how much customers should expect to be paid for solar electricity exported to the grid.

Electricity retailers in NSW currently set their own prices for purchasing solar electricity, which the IPART says should hover between six cents and 7.3 cents per kilowatt hour.

Solar systems save the typical household $1000 per year on power bills, and earn them a further $240 per year from exports.

"It's positive that we are starting to see new types of offers being available in the market," IPART member Sandra Gamble said.

"We want to hear from customers what sort of solar plans they want and whether their needs are being met."

There was an 18 per cent uptick in the number of households in NSW with solar panels in 2020, with almost one in seven now having solar power.

Submissions can be made until March 15 and a public hearing will be held on March 9.
