Sol Campbell pinpoints what Arsenal are lacking as he cites example of Liverpool star

Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell believes his old side are missing a midfielder in the mould of former Gunners hero Ray Parlour or Liverpool star James Milner.

The Arsenal Invincible has been speaking about his old side and what he feels they are missing, amid a mixed start to the new season, having let slip a two-goal lead against bottom side Watford in their last Premier League fixture.

That led to plenty of criticism from fans and pundits alike, with Arsenal architects of their own downfall at Vicarage Road after giving the ball away cheaply for the Hornets' first goal, before conceding a penalty to allow the hosts to draw level.

And Campbell reckons that Arsenal need a never-say-die attitude in their midfield, adding that in his opinion, that is what they are lacking.

“For me, it's the controlling of the game. The middle of the park is where they are lacking. You look at someone like [James] Milner. That kind of attitude, Ray Parlour attitude," Campbell told Talksport.

“That’s what I think Arsenal need. I am not talking about the exact player but that kind of attitude, the love of football and desire to keep going, that’s the kind of attitude I think Arsenal need, and they are lacking.

"I look at Milner and think we need a little bit of that at Arsenal."

The Gunners currently sit seventh in the Premier League with eight points from their opening five league games, but Unai Emery's men have not won any of their last three matches; losing 3-1 against Liverpool before a home draw with north London rivals Tottenham and the 2-2 draw with Watford on Sunday.

Arsenal are in action this evening (Thursday), with the Gunners taking on Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
