Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has urged the Gunners to make a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Conor Coady this summer.
The north London outfit are expected to be busy in the window this year as they aim to better a disappointing 2020/21 season under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal are expected to target a centre-back with David Luiz having departed the club, leaving Gabriel, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari as the only senior centre-backs on the club’s books as it stands.
Whilst William Saliba and Kostas Mavropanos could be options for the Gunners heading into the new season, Campbell has hailed Wolves’ Coady as potentially an ideal recruit.
Talking to Ladbrokes at the launch of their new European Championships 5-a-side Bet, he said: “There’s a lot of players out there who can fit the Arsenal mould. Conor Coady is a good player; he’s comfortable on the ball, he’s a winner.
“He’s definitely got the kind of mentality Arsenal should be looking at in new players. He’s definitely someone they should look at because he’s so solid, he wants to defend.
“He can pass as well, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s good in the air. He’s a good all-rounder and he’s got a bit about him.
“He’s at a good club now in Wolves, but he’s actually someone I’d be looking at for Arsenal this summer. He’s got a great attitude as well, and I like that.”
Coady has been with Wolves since 2015 and made 37 Premier League appearances last season.
Arsenal have recently been linked with the Englishman’s teammate Ruben Neves, who could be available for £35m this summer, according to reports.
