Sokratis sends Instagram message to Aubameyang as his early season prediction comes true

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang celebrated his first full season in English football by claiming the Premier League Golden Boot award.

The Gabon international has been a superb signing for the Gunners. He joined in the January transfer window last season and still managed to net 13 times during the second half of the campaign.

Tipped to take such form into this season, he didn't disappoint and his brace in the 3-1 win over Burnley on the final day of the season took his tally to 22 - the same number as Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Arsenal player ratings: Joe Willock exceptional, Aubameyang earns Golden Boot in style

Unlike other competitions, where assists are used in tie break situations, the Premier League regulations state that in the event of a tie the award will be shared therefore it was split three ways.

Furthermore, Aubameyang becomes the first Arsenal player since Robin Van Persie in 2011-12 to win the Premier League's Golden Boot. A feat which didn't seem possible ahead of kick-off at Turf Moor.

But one person who had faith in the ex-Borussia Dortmund striker is Sokratis Papastathopoulos as he backed his close friend to win the Golden Boot earlier in the season.

"I know Auba. I've known him for six or seven years," he told Arsenal's official website following the reverse fixture against the Clarets before Christmas.

"In these games he does it every time, one, two or three goals. I think 30 will happen.

"I hope that he will win it (the golden boot)."

Whilst Aubameyang didn't quite hit 30 goals in the Premier League, he does have 31 to his name across all competitions after netting a superb hat-trick against Valencia in the Europa League prior to putting Burnley to the sword.

So Sokratis' prediction was effectively spot on and made sure to congratulate the Gunners ace with a classy Instagram message.
