Sokratis sends emotional message to Arsenal fans and teammates after exit confirmed

Sokratis has confirmed his Arsenal exit in an emotional message to fans, teammates and staff.

As revealed by football.london, the club came to a mutual agreement to allow the defender to leave on a free transfer.

The centre-back has been in north London for two-and-a-half years following his £17.6million move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2018.

However, the defender was left out of the Arsenal Premier League and Europa League squads for the 2020/21 season.

That left the Greek international in a tricky position, and he chose to stay and play for the Under-23s side to increase his match sharpness for a January move.

With a transfer proving difficult to secure so far, the decision was made to allow the centre-back to exit the club, and the 32-year-old took to social media to send an emotional message to those who have helped him along the way in London.

"One of the most enjoyable times in my career ended today," the centre-back wrote on his social media pages.

"It has been an honour to wear the Arsenal shirt and I want to thank all the coaches, team-mates, staff and fans around the world for the love and respect they have given me.

"I gave everything for Arsenal and Arsenal also gave me a lot. I wish you all the best health and success always.

"Thank you."

Sokratis has been linked with a move to Genoa and Real Betis among others.
