Sokratis ready to exploit Arsenal weakness with Olympiakos after three years with Gunners

Former Arsenal defender Sokratis has urged his side Olympiakos to exploit the areas of weakness ahead of their Europa League tie.

The Gunners drew Greek champions Olympiakos in the Round of 16 on Friday, which will take place mid way through next month.

The tie will see axed defender Sokratis return to the Emirates Stadium just a month or so after he left the club by ‘mutual consent’.

Of course, Arsenal are heavy favourites going into the two-legged affair.

But Olympiakos knocked the Gunners out of the competition last year on away goals, showing they are capable of sprinting an upset.

And Sokratis insists that while Mikel Arteta has a great side, if Olympiakos can target their weak points and stick to their game plan, they have every chance of coming away victorious once again.

“It is something special because until a month ago I was with them,” said the 32-year-old. “I think it will be a difficult game. Arsenal are a very big team.

“We have to be focused during both games to repeat last year.

“There are no big differences because he is the same coach. More or less it is the same team with two or three additions.

“It is a team with great quality, but there are also areas we can hit to harm them.

“Each game will be different. We should see them as two separate games.

“I believe that the coach has in mind the tactics that we must follow. In combination with a good appearance and a good day, I believe that we have chances.”

Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium on Thursday 11 March at 8pm, before coming to the Emirates Stadium a week later at a slightly earlier time of 5:55pm.
