Sokratis makes Arsenal transfer declaration amid uncertainty over his future

Arsenal centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos has admitted he is not sure what the future holds for him amid speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

The 31-year-old was a regular starter under previous manager Unai Emery but has not featured in a Premier League game since January under Mikel Arteta, with the Spaniard tending to prefer Shkodran Mustafi in his position.

Sokratis did start the FA Cup win against Portsmouth, scoring the Gunners' opening goal in the 2-0 victory, but when asked at full-time whether he could leave the club next year he seemed uncertain.

"I don't know," Sokratis said. "I have one more year here but me, I never sit on my contract. I don't care. If I'm not happy, I don't play enough or the coach doesn't like me, I don't care about the contract.

"For me the money is not important, it is important I feel good, I feel happy and the team is happy with me. If not, I take the road and I finish.

"I don't think about it, I think every day to be happy and help the team and in the end we will see but what I say is that I am not a player who sits on a contract- I don't need it."

Eddie Nketiah added to Sokratis' goal in the second-half to seal a place in the quarter-finals for the Gunners, and Arteta declared his delight with the performance from his young team.

"I'm really pleased with them [the youngsters]," he told BBC Sport after the match.

"I'm enjoying working with the players. They deserve a chance. It's always a risk but they're worth the risk.

"It was a great atmosphere and Portsmouth made it difficult. We knew we'd have moments we could suffer but we reacted and got control of the game.

"We got two goals and could have had a few more."
