Soil on boots of Emma Faulds murder accused 'similar' to soil where body was found

Soil recovered from the boots of a man accused of murdering Emma Faulds was similar to to the earth where her body was found.

Professor Lorna Dawson CBE gave evidence at the High Court in Glasgow today after studying soil and plant samples relevant to the investigation, as well as studying boots belonging to Ross Willox.

Willox, 41, is accused of murdering Emma, 39, at his home in Fairfield Park, Monkton on April 28, 2019 and dumping her body.

Emma's body was found in Glentrool Forest, Dumfries and Galloway on June 12, 2019.

The court heard Prof Dawson was an expert advisor who had worked with police forces across the UK and in Australia.

She was asked to examine Timberland boots as well as Mercedes and Jaguar vehicles for the presence of soil.

Prof Dawson told jurors soil recovered from the Timberland boots worn by Willox was found to be similar to the earth where Emma's body was found.

She said: "It is much more probable that that the material recovered from the Timberland boots came from the deposition site rather than a similar common bog habitat."

Prof Dawson stated that there was "very strong to extremely strong" support for the findings.

It was revealed there was a 92% soil match from the shoes compared to the soil that covered her body.

A further possible match from the deposition site was found under the wheel arch of a jaguar car.
