SoFi Stadium serving as vaccination site for 85,000 LA school teachers and staff

The Los Angeles Rams played eight games at SoFi Stadium last season but in each one, there were no fans in the stands watching. The magnificent $5 billion stadium was closed to the public due to the pandemic, so the Rams were unable to experience game day in front of a passionate crowd in Inglewood.

SoFi Stadium is being put to good use now, though, and is serving as a mass vaccination site for Los Angeles United school teachers and staff, so that hopefully next season fans will be able to take in a game under that spectacular canopy roof.

The Rams shared a video Monday featuring Andrew Whitworth and Kenny Young, who are assisting in the local vaccination efforts.

“I just think it’s a great opportunity for us as the Rams to be part of something that’s going on in our community that’s so special,” Whitworth said. “To have the opportunity for our school staff, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, teachers – everyone getting vaccinated, the opportunity to be safe and be able to go to school and get our kids educated and back into schools, I think it’s a special day and we’re just so proud to be here and be a part of it.”

Young echoed Whitworth’s thoughts, saying he’s there “to be a presence and a spirit and to soak up as much as I can.” He emphasized the importance of getting things back to normal for kids and teachers in schools right now and for the future.

SoFi Stadium will host Super Bowl LVI next year, too, and the NFL hopes to have fans in the stands, just as it did this year when the Bucs hosted the Chiefs in Tampa Bay.
